TERMS FOR TUTORS
Tuition Hero is a tuition agency that matches parents/students/tutees to private home tutors. This service is provided by Hero Education Pte Ltd. The word “client” refers to parents, students and tutees who requested for a tutor or tutoring service. “Tutor” refers to tutors who will be providing the tutoring services.
Please read and agree to the terms and conditions below.
Requirement
16 years old and above
A Singapore citizen/ Singapore permanent resident (PR)/ Valid employment pass holder
Minimum qualifications with a pass in ‘O’ levels or relevant certificate
Tutor Verification
All contents, such as text, photographs and certificates, are sole responsibility of the tutor from which all of them originated. As such, the tutor is responsible for all the contents posted, uploaded and emailed or made available via Tuition Hero’s website.
It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that all information provided and credentials uploaded are accurate and truthful. Tutors who provide fake information and credential will be subjected to the following consequences:
To be blacklisted from Tuition Hero’s database
Contact details of the said tutor to be released out to partner agencies
To be reported to the police
Clients have the rights to verify the tutor’s credentials and request for documents as proof prior to the first class. Tutors are required to bring and present their NRIC and relevant certificates requested by the clients on the first class.
Assigning and Accepting Assignments
Tuition Hero cannot guarantee that tutors will be selected for the assignment even after they have applied. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the coordinator.
Prior to accepting an assignment, it is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that he/she is able to fully commit to the assignment according to the job description: location, subjects, level of students, rate, duration, frequency, schedules and other requirements.
Upon acceptance of the assignment, the tutor is required to commit to the tuition assignment for a minimum of 4 weeks. Should the tutor terminates the assignment prior to the minimum period of 4 weeks, he/she will have to pay 50% of the 1st month tuition fees to Tuition Hero.
Clients will not be bound to this agreement and reserves the right to terminate the assignment at any time after the first class. However, upon the confirmation of the assignment and tutor, clients are required to complete a minimum of 1 class on the fixed date and time agreed.
Conduct of Tutors
Tuition Hero reserves the right to terminate the assignment immediately should we deem the tutor’s conduct to be unsatisfactory. Repeated poor conduct would lead to suspension or termination of tutor’s account. Guidelines of proper conduct include but are not limited to the following:
Tutors should always be on time for the classes, especially on the first class. It is the tutor’s responsibility to check the exact location of tuition address and to attend the class on time. Tutor is required to inform the client as early as possible should there be any unforeseen circumstances to cancel the class.
Should there be any unforeseen circumstances to cancel the class, it is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the client is notified at least 2 days in advance, unless due to sickness, wherein a doctor’s medical certificate (MC) should be provided.
Tutors should always be polite and should never engage in verbal or physical abuse. In addition, they should present themselves in proper attire.
Tutors should provide feedback on student’s progress.
Payment of Commission
All assignments will be regarded as long-term assignment unless communicated to us otherwise by the client upon requesting of tutors. Long-term assignment being cut short due to any reasons whatsoever will not be considered as a short-term assignment and commission of 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of first month will apply.
Collection of commission will always be at the end of the 2nd week cycle of classes. For example, if the tuition is agreed to be held on 7th September (first week) and 14th September (second week) but the client postpones the tuition from 14th September to 21st September, we will collect the two weeks tuition fee on 22nd September.
From the third week onwards, client can pay to the tutor directly, either after each class, weekly or monthly depending on the agreement between the tutor and client.
Long-Term Assignments
Long-term assignments are defined as assignments that are intended to proceed beyond 3 months. Commission is 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of first month.
Tuition Hero will collect the first 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of the first month tuition fee from the client at the end of the 2nd week.
Short-Term Assignments
Short-term assignments are defined as assignments with duration of more than one month but less than or equal to 3 months. Commission is 1 week cycle tuition fee or 25% of the first month.
Tuition Hero will collect first 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of the first month tuition fee from the client at the end of the 2nd week. We will refund 1 week cycle tuition fee or 25% to the tutor’s account.
Crash Courses
Crash Courses are defined as assignments with duration of one month or less. The estimated number of classes will be decided prior to the confirmation of the assignment. Commission is 15% of the total tuition fees collected for the entire duration of the course.
Tuition Hero will collect first 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of the first month tuition fee from the client at the end of the 2nd week. We will refund the remaining balance to the tutor’s account.
Changes of schedule, postponement or cancellation of class
Tutor must take the effort to notify Tuition Hero in any changes of schedule, postponement or cancellation of classes in the first 4 weeks cycle of classes. Tuition Hero will adjust the payment collection time and details.
Tutor is required to inform the client in any change of schedule 3 days before the start of class and to provide a valid reason and proof.
If there is any postponement from the client, the client is required to inform the tutor at least 3 hours before the start of class. If the client has informed the tutor less than 3 hours before the start of class, the tutor has the right to claim for the time lost and transport cost, which will be no more than 1 class tuition fee.
Amount of commission remains the same even if there is a cancellation and postponement.
Changes to classes duration
If there are changes in duration or frequency of classes within 2 months, Tuition Hero will determine the commission based on the long-term duration or frequency of classes
For example:
Scenario 1: Client agrees to have 1 class/week for the first 4 weeks and 2 classes/week from the 5th week onwards. Our commission is charged based on the long-term assignment. We will collect the first 4 classes worth of tuition fee as commission.
Scenario 2: Client agree to have 4 hours/week and requested to have only 2 hours for the first week. Our commission is charged based on the long-term assignment. We will collect 8 hours worth of tuition fee as commission.
Termination of Assignments Prior to 1st Month
Termination by Tutor
After the confirmation of the assignment and after the client’s contact number have been given to the tutor, the tutor will be required to commit for a minimum of 4 weeks. For whatever reasons the tutor may need to terminate the assignment, he/she will be required to compensate a fee to Tuition Hero which is equivalent to 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of the first month tuition fee.
Termination by Client
If the client terminates the tuition services before completing the 1st month, Tuition Hero will collect from the client the tuition fee for the number of the classes conducted. 50% of the tuition fee collected will be refunded to the tutor.
If it is a trial lesson agreed by both parties, Tuition Hero will collect from the client the tuition fee for the number of the classes conducted. 70% of the tuition fee collected will be refunded to the tutor.
Within the best of its ability, Tuition Hero will collect the payment from the client. However, in the event that the client decides to default on the payment, Tuition Hero will not be liable to make any payments on the client’s behalf.
Compensation of commission
After the confirmation of the assignment and after the client’s contact number have been given to the tutor, the tutor will be required to commit for a minimum of 4 weeks.
If the tutor or client terminates the tuition services before completing the 1st month, under situations listed below, Tuition Hero reserves the rights to claim a fee from tutor which is equivalent to 2 weeks cycle tuition fee or 50% of the first month tuition fee:
a. is terminated due to tutor’s attempts to vary the tuition rate, tuition time, duration of the tuition, period of the contract and other terms that has been agreed upon, notwithstanding the fact that the tutor and the parents has not executed the agreement;
b. is terminated due to the tutor’s failure to present himself/herself for the scheduled tuition class or appointment. Tuition Hero will not consider any tutor's reason;
c. refuses or neglected or failed to finalise the terms of tuition services after Tuition Hero released the contact details of the Employer to the Tutor;
d. provide Tuition Hero or our client inaccurate information, include but not limited to: personal information, qualification and experience.
h. Transferring the tuition to 3rd party without the consent of Tuition Hero or allowing 3rd party representative to contact client on behalf of the tutor without consent of Tuition Hero.
Default of Payment by Client
Should there be delay in tuition fees paid to the tutors, Tuition Hero will assist the tutor in recovering the payment from the client. However, Tuition Hero is not legally responsible for any payment dispute that arise between the tutor and client. Tuition Hero is not liable to pay any tuition fees to the tutor should the client defaults on the payment.
Removal of Tutor Profile
Tuition Hero reserves the right to remove the tutor’s profile or to not assign any assignment to the tutor due to various reasons, including but not limited to:
Tutor who provides fake information and profile
When the tutor receives complaints from the clients
Tutor who does not abide to Tuition Hero’s Terms of Tutors
When the tutor is not responsible: does not show up on time, has frequent cancellations of classes, and has an unpleasant attitude.
Age, Gender and Race Preference
Tuition Hero will display information of age, gender and race preference on our assignment details. This is to display the most accurate requests from the clients. By signing up as a tutor, you agree to accept that you may be receiving advertisements of assignment with specific requests. You may unsubscribe from Tuition Hero if you feel uncomfortable.
Disclaimer
Tuition Hero acts as a 3rd party in the process of the matching services. In no event shall Tuition Hero, the director and the employees be liable for any damages or physical harm inflicted whatsoever (including, but not limited to, theft, damages to property, physical/verbal abuse, outrage of modesty, sexual harassment, etc) to either of the involved parties.
Tuition Hero does not guarantee the improvement of student’s grades, the timeliness of payment from clients and the positive attitude of clients.
Tuition Hero reserves the right to amend our T&C at any time without prior notice to our tutors.
